I've had the honor of working with a number of people that suffer from the debilitating fear of driving.... mostly freeways. Interesting enough, it's more the open freeways rather than driving in heavy traffic. Most find the traffic more comforting. Now, a phobia has no known root cause - it just starts happening one day. Then you add the anticipatory anxiety and viola - a phobia is born. How does it start? Believe it not, a drop in one's glucose levels (hypoglycemia) is often the culprit coupled with an overload of stimuli and off you go. Low blood sugar can have a dramatic impact on the body, as well as the mind. You wake up and slam a glass of OJ (all sugar) and take off to work. Maybe you grab a doughnut and for lunch, well maybe you eat a burger and fries or nothing at all. Perhaps the night before you didn't get good sleep either. Perhaps mentally you are already stressed with thoughts of your obligations or life in general. At some point during your day you are driving on the freeway and along the way your body starts feeling odd. Your palms sweat, your heart races, and your hands tremble. What's happening is your body is reacting to the drop of your blood sugar but your subconscious doesn't know that - all it knows is that you are driving on the freeway so instantly the connection is established. "I feel like this because I am on the freeway". The feeling overrides attempts of rational thinking. How confusing - your body is doing its own freaky thing yet in your mind you are wondering what the heck is going on - why, how? Again, the connection is established subconsciously - your mind connects the physical experience to the stimuli coming in through your senses.
I've had great success with my clients. In addition to the therapy I provide, making sure to consume proper amounts of protein is key! Eating proper meals is also very important. Desensitizing the client to the expectation is my first approach. Clients learn calming techniques that they can practice anytime, anywhere. I've also used the infamous NLP fast phobia cure.
Anyone taking a long road trip - take along some protein snacks for the ride. Raw almonds rock!

What Hypnotherapy is NOT
Hypnosis is not a truth serum.
You will not lose or hand over control.
You will not act a fool.
You will not divulge secrets, or anything you choose not to.
You will not go into a void.
You will not fall asleep.
You will not stare at a swaying watch.
Too often, too many people only know of Hypnosis based on what they've seen through Hollywood (movies & TV). Dramatization sells. I am not a fan of the stage Hypnotists and at that there are many elements playing into the whole experience. It's all about entertainment.
What I provide is Therapeutic Hypnosis. Clients RELAX their bodies and CALM their minds. Many clients do experience time distortion where 30 minutes feels like only 5 or 10 minutes. That's natural when one is in such a relaxed state. I've yet to have anyone actually fall asleep, although some claim they did. Not so - the conscious mind simply drifts while the subconscious hears everything. Everyone can open their eyes at any time during the process if they so choose. It's all very safe and extremely relaxing.

What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state of focused concentration, usually accompanied by deep relaxation, in which your mind is more receptive to ideas – ideas that you want it to be receptive to. You decide what is to get all of your attention. Hypnosis helps you concentrate on it to the exclusion of everything else until you make it a reality in your mind. There is an old saying that “Anything your mind can conceive and believe, you can achieve.” The trick is believing it. That’s where hypnosis comes in – to help you believe it – to lock it into your subconscious mind directly, bypassing your everyday conscious critical judgment and interference.
Hypnosis won’t make you into something or someone you aren’t, but it will help something that’s already there to be realized. Hypnosis works at freeing you up to use more of the potential you already have.
Imagination is the key. Napoleon said, “Imagination rules the world.” Einstein said, “Imagination is everything. It is the preview of coming attractions.” And the degree to which you can vividly imagine something, the greater impact it will have on you. The greater your concentration, the more vivid your imagination. You have optimum concentration when you are deeply relaxed; that is when you have the greatest amount of mental focus available. It has been proven scientifically that visualization of goals with words, pictures, and emotions in a deeply relaxed state make their achievement rapid, permanent, and potentially effortless.
